As a Senior Analyst I-IV, you'll play a key role in advancing CEI's analytics and decision-support capabilities. You'll develop SQL-driven data solutions, forecasts, reporting tools, and automated processes that help guide power supply planning, budgeting, operations, and strategic business decisions. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, improving processes, and using data to drive business success.  Placement within Levels I-IV is based on experience, expertise, leadership, independence, and organizational impact.

 

 

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and improve analytical methods supporting forecasting, budgeting, resource evaluation, operational analysis, and strategic decisions.
  • Create and maintain SQL queries, views, stored procedures, analytical datasets, and reporting structures.
  • Independently extract, transform, validate, analyze, and interpret large datasets from multiple sources.
  • Design and maintain Power BI dashboards, semantic models, DAX measures, and paginated reports.
  • Perform variance, sensitivity, scenario, regression, statistical, and trend analyses to explain results and quantify risk.
  • Automate recurring analytical and reporting processes to improve efficiency, consistency, controls, and documentation.
  • Analyze power supply alternatives, market and fuel trends, load growth, cost drivers, and strategic opportunities.
  • Evaluate financial, operational, and business impacts of resource options, supplier opportunities, and other alternatives.
  • Work with subject matter experts to define requirements, validate assumptions, and translate results into practical recommendations.
  • Modernize legacy processes, standardize repeatable workflows, and reduce reliance on manual spreadsheet-based analysis.
  • Document methodologies, assumptions, data sources, business rules, and validation steps.
  • Serve as a technical resource for analytics, forecasting, reporting, automation, and data-driven problem solving.

Level Progression:

 

Senior Analyst I: Performs analytical assignments with guidance and develops proficiency in CEI processes, SQL, Power BI, forecasting, and data validation.

Senior Analyst II: Independently completes complex analyses, develops reporting and automation solutions, and provides recommendations to management and stakeholders.

Senior Analyst III: Leads complex analytical projects, designs scalable solutions, serves as a subject matter expert, and mentors analysts and business users.

Senior Analyst IV: Leads enterprise analytical and modernization initiatives, establishes methods and standards, advises leadership, and influences strategic decisions.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced SQL skills, including complex queries, joins, common table expressions, window functions, views, stored procedures, and analytical dataset creation.
  • Experience developing Power BI solutions, including dashboards, semantic models, DAX measures, and paginated reports.
  • Strong quantitative, statistical, forecasting, variance-analysis, data-validation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to independently analyze large datasets and convert complex results into clear business recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to automate processes, strengthen analytical controls, and implement maintainable solutions.
  • Strong communication, presentation, organization, critical-thinking, and time-management skills.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with Python, R, or another analytical programming language.
  • Experience with predictive analytics, regression, statistical forecasting, scenario modeling, simulation, or optimization.
  • Familiarity with automated reporting, enterprise business intelligence, ETL, SSIS, cloud analytics, APIs, VBA, or data integration technologies.
  • Experience in utility operations, energy markets, finance, operations, consulting, or another analytical environment is beneficial but not required.

Education and Work Experience:

Bachelor's degree preferred in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, Business Analytics, Finance, or another quantitative or analytical discipline. Equivalent combinations of education, experience, and demonstrated technical capability may be considered.

  • Senior Analyst I: Generally, five or more years of relevant analytical experience.
  • Senior Analyst II: Generally, seven or more years of relevant experience with demonstrated independence in complex analysis and solution development.
  • Senior Analyst III: Generally, ten or more years of relevant experience with demonstrated leadership of complex analytical initiatives.
  • Senior Analyst IV: Demonstrated expert-level capability and the ability to lead enterprise solutions and influence strategic decisions. No fixed minimum years of experience are required.

Primary Objective of the Role:

Help CEI transition from manual, spreadsheet-centered analysis toward SQL-driven analytics, automated business intelligence, repeatable forecasting methods, stronger analytical controls, and sustainable decision-support capabilities.
